WHO (World Health Organization): these recommended amounts should be doubled

The World Health Organization (WHO) recommended in 1990 that you should eat 5 servings of fruits and vegetables a day (a meal is about 80 g, so a total of 400 g per day): the results of recent studies show that these recommended amounts should be doubled. In addition, it has been confirmed that vegetables are 4 times healthier than fruit.

The results of a 12-year University College London (UCL) study of 65,000 UK residents in 2001, reported Telegraph.

Scientists have found that people who eat at least 7 servings of fruits and vegetables a day have a 42% lower chance of premature death, compared to people who eat less than one meal a day.

In addition, mortality was reduced by the following percentages: for those who ate 5 to 7 servings of fruits and vegetables per day, it was reduced by 36%, for those who ate 3 to 5 servings, it was reduced by 29%, and only 14% less for those who ate 1 to 3 meals a day.

People who ate at least 7 meals a day had a 25% reduced cancer death rate and a 31% reduced cardiovascular disease death rate. Experts say: "The more fruits and vegetables you eat, the more effective prevention is", and add: "Seven meals are not enough, it is most optimal if you eat 10 meals a day." The WHO recommendation of 5 meals a day should be at least doubled.

Professor Naveed Sattar, in his lab at the Institute of Cardiovascular Studies and Medical Sciences, at the University of Glasgow, in Glasgow, Scotland

dr. Oyinlola Oyebode, who led the study, recommends eating more fruits and vegetables, regardless of how much you've eaten so far. It is obvious from the results that the increased use of fruits and vegetables would require the support of the government. "For many in society it would be really challenging to introduce the message about fruit and vegetables 7 times a day," said Dr Naveed Sattar from the University of Glasgow. "Any such change needs to be supported by direct government action, to change and improve the supply and enable the availability of healthier food (in this case fruit and vegetables), perhaps legally: taxes on sweets."

Another interesting fact brought out by the mentioned study: vegetables are healthier than fruits. Vegetables reduced mortality by 16% per meal, and fruit only by 4%. The use of frozen and canned fruit increased mortality by 17% - the reason is the sugar found there. Fruit juices have little effect on health. The researchers supported the Australian recommendation: 2 + 5, as Australia recommends 2 servings of fruit plus 5 servings of vegetables per day. The study was published in the journal Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health.

To make it easier to consume 10 daily servings of fruits and vegetables, use juices!

If you want those 10 meals, you can eat them during 3 main meals (breakfast, a variety of fruits with a variety of nuts, seeds and cereals (can also be blended)..., lunch, a variety of vegetables with cooked pulses and cereals.... dinner, fruit, the same as for breakfast.... ).We do not recommend snacks, because they strain the digestive organs.

In addition to the fact that freshly squeezed juices are nutritious, juices help you exceed the daily recommended amount because they are concentrated, it is difficult to eat 10 carrots or 10 apples... or other fruits and vegetables, but if you squeeze them in a juicer, you get a juice that is much easier to drink. You can drink freshly squeezed juice 1-2 hours before a meal or 3-4 hours after a meal.

The best investment for your health would be to have a juicer (Slow juicer) in your home, with which you can make quality freshly squeezed juices. We recommend Angel juicers.
