
Billions of plastic particles in just one cup of tea from a bag
By Rob Picheta, CNN; September 27, 2019. They're everywhere: in the oceans[1], in the soil[2], in the air, in the snow[3] – and even in your cup of tea! Plastic tea bags are leaching billions of microplastics into the tea we drink, a new study finds. Researchers at McGill University in Canada analyzed what happens when we put four different types of tea bags available in our stores into boiling water. They found that just one bag released about 11.6 micrograms of plastic into a cup of tea.
